If someone is GIVING you a G3, TAKE IT! Optimized, schmoptimized, it will run YDL fine. Maybe you'd get a 1% performance gain if it was a B&W, but nobody's offering you one of those. And I've never heard anything about post-beige optimization (but that doesn't mean it isn't true). Anybody else know about that?
Besides, you can sell the G3 on the Swap list for at LEAST US$200 I'd reckon, and that would help you buy the Pismo if your buddy won't let you pay him in installments.
