Does anyone else find it interesting how people's perception of performance (ppp!) can vary so wildly? I find 10.1.x to be acceptable on an early slot-loading iMac (350MHz, approaching its second birthday), although I admit I use it mainly for IM (Fire), console apps, and updating software -- but the kids don't complain about the speed either, and they're the ones using it most. I'm about to try OSX on my beige G3/266, although I'm taking chasd's advice about using fast disks (I scarfed the E2 SCSI enclosure from my wife's old video system, a pair of fast 9GB drives ought to help). The thing is, I've been bracing myself for a slow system so much, I'll probably be happy if it runs at all. ;-) -- Larry Kollar, Senior Technical Writer, ARRIS "Content creators are the engine that drives value in the information life cycle." -- Barry Schaeffer, on XML-Doc -- MaX-list is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... / Buy books, CDs, videos, and more from Amazon.com \ / <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/lowendmac> \ Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> MaX-list info: <http://lowendmac.com/linux/max.shtml> Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/max-list%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Macintosh?
