Does anyone else find it interesting how people's perception
of performance (ppp!) can vary so wildly? I find 10.1.x to be
acceptable on an early slot-loading iMac (350MHz, approaching
its second birthday), although I admit I use it mainly for IM
(Fire), console apps, and updating software -- but the kids
don't complain about the speed either, and they're the ones
using it most.

I'm about to try OSX on my beige G3/266, although I'm taking
chasd's advice about using fast disks (I scarfed the E2 SCSI
enclosure from my wife's old video system, a pair of fast 9GB
drives ought to help). The thing is, I've been bracing myself
for a slow system so much, I'll probably be happy if it runs
at all. ;-)
