Hi list,
I can't find a LEM list specific to OS X but this list has always been very helpful, so I hope you don't mind. I can't justify spending more of my hard-earned $$$ for another version of MS Office to run on OS X when I already have Word 5.1a/Excel 4 and Office 98. AppleWorks isn't quite "there" yet and none of the free alternatives I've seen (like AbiWord, OpenOffice.org) are very polished (i.e. I'm not comfortable letting my wife use them). So I'm on a quest to get my old versions running on Panther.
Hi Tim
Have you tried running Basilisk II under OS X, I know you would have a more direct method in mind but it will allow you to run heaps of your older classic app's and with luck allow the G5 to appletalk to the SE/30....
Wouldn't the G-list be all OS X by now?
I dont run OSX so I can only guess B2 will share appletalk via ethernet to a classic mac as it does with all my non-macs, you may need OT1.1.2 rather than mactpc to do appletalk over tpc and to find the OSX box but OT1.1.2 runs under 7.1. :) OT is only required to use the newest appletalk clients which allow you to enter a appleshare server address, Mactpc can not do this--for what little its worth the macs on my lan do not 'see' the netatalk server in the chooser which is why I added this tip, everyone see's a pc running B2 in their chooser.
Also, any thoughts on how my wife and I can share one mailbox from our two accounts would be great. The hints at macosxhints.com are years old and sounded like they were kind of dodgy. I'm hoping to move the Netscape mailbox file from our ancient P-II and have everything "just work" when I point the email app at the right mailbox, then I can at last retire that PC. I'm also hopeful that we can use different email apps (Mail.app, Thunderbird, etc) if we choose.
Netscape, mozilla and thunderbird all share the same type of mail format. I have copied the mail folder from pc's to macs and back again without drama so I dont see a problem, again I dont use OSX but its installing under XP running PearPC as we speak. :)
I'm not sure how you share one mailbox from two accounts, on this pc under mozilla I would choose the account - view settings - server settings - and change the local directory path at the bottom of the window to point at the other accounts local folder, my guess is the incoming box would be shared by the two accounts while the sent, drafts and templates folders remain under their respective server folders?? Never done it and I may have missed read your question.
All the best, dont you just wish folks could start a new thread. ;)
