I forgot to mention - that's on an Athlon 2600+ under Linux, for comparison with Darren's speeds :).

Thanks Dana, something to aim for, not that my test box will get near that speed. I'll try it under linux for a comparision, different box. :) Are you running 10.3.4?

What excites me is the possibility of running OSX on a mac Quadra using PearPC for 68k linux... *grin*.

Exodus? Even with your extra speed and the quadra's ethernet you shouldn't see a great lag. Win4Lin and SheepShaver work well here via Exodus, I hope this will too.

That's one possibility, and one I'll probably try. My original really-silly-thought was to install linux on a 68k quadra, run pearpc on the quadra, and then run OSX from that. Purely as a "this would be cool!" thing :).

And then those 4 hour booting times will probably become realistic.

I understood the *grin* but my fastest 68k is a 040/25, I wont be
trying it. I wonder if mdk-ppc on a 7300 will do the job, might be the
only way it would boot Panther. More a "cause I can" thing than having
a cool factor. Faster than a VNC to a intel server across a T10 connection?

Exodus may make it usable on a 68k with a 2-4 minute boot. Its not cheating as your using the resources at hand, fast ethernet would be nice. ;) Does OSX provide the servers required to use exodus with it used as the host?

Do you have a network under linux pearpc? If I did and had some speed in the emulation I'd try basilisk to test appletalk to older clients on the lan, I may come up short on hardware to try this. :( Does anyone use basilisk II under OSX on a G4 or G5 to try this?
