Honestly. Windows-bias. I've spent more hours in front of MS Office
than I care to mention. Plus, there is a bad association between
AppleWorks and Microsoft Works (a rather pathetic consumer package in
my experience) in my mind. I'm not saying these are good reasons, by
the way. Perhaps if I had "grown up" on AppleWorks I might take a
different position.

OpenOffice offers me the same environment on Mac OS X, Windows, and
Linux. It is decently full-featured, too. Additionally, it gives me a
fair amount of flexibility with MS Office.

What might you be missing? I really don't know as I haven't ever made
a conscious head-to-head comparison of these things.
