Its actually quite simple:

$ ssh -X $IP-at-home

of course, this will only work for X11 apps, not Mac
apps.  I would recommend using VNC.  To get that to
work SECURELY, I suggest logging into your home Mac as
shown above and from your home and then connect to the
VNC server running on your home Mac using 

$ vncviewer localhost:1

And there you go: a secure, easy to use remote control
of your home computer.
