Hello,
did it occur to anyone that possibly the school doesnt allow this port fwding for the obvious security reasons. i think it is important that as responsible (s.a.'s) we tell what we know as best practices.
we also probably dont wanna' be encouraging illegal activities by simply giving tech answers.
we should disclaimer any info we give like the post i'm rsvp'ing about.
How about this: since this is a mailing list about Unix and Unix related stuff on Macs, we assume that discussions here are about this, not about some imaginary use of something or other which might be "illegal". Anyhow, trying to make use of a service on a network where there is no stated policy regarding such use is not illegal, not even in the minds of the paranoid.
So I disagree. It's not our business to try to ascertain whether this person's school has a specific policy besides suggesting that problems might be due to such a policy.
I'm all for constructive comments, but this just seems a little silly.
