Greetings,
This list has been very quiet lately. Here's a little something to let
everyone know it's not completely dead. :)
I recently got YDL4 to install on my beige G3. Hooray! I thought I was
having major problems even getting the install to work, but then
realized my blanking monitor might be a video problem associated with
the Rage 128 (ATI,Rage128o) card I have. Yup! When I use the onboard
video (ATI,mach64_3DUPro) it comes up OK.
However, it always downgrades from the relatively high res (1024, 832,
or 800) I use in MacOS to 640. :( I can override this by passing
kernel parameters. Some work better than others. Currently I'm using
vmode 10 and cmode 8 to get a workable 800x600 res. Since I have a 17"
monitor, I'd be happier with 1024.
Anybody have any hints for getting it to work with the Rage 128? A 16MB
card is much better than 6MB when trying to run Celestia or Tux Racer! I
don't often use this box at the console (it's usually just my web
server) but I do load the GUI stuff in case I want to show someone a
Linux desktop, and I don't remember having this problem in YDL3. I
never used to pass kernel parameters, just selected "no video driver" in
the booter.
Thanks,
Tim
