Well, you could run sample command to find our what needs so much time. Second you could try newer QTKit classes. And third there may be simply a lot of data in the play, so it takes some time. I normally add images uncompressed and later compress the final video. PS: I found a little thing where I can squeeze a few ms per second, but that won't make a big change.
