Ralph wrote (and Rick had said something similar) about Gary's suggestion
to double the capacity by doubling the pitch:

Perhaps that is the reason that pitch controls on MD units can go down to
-98.5% but up only to +12.5%.  A pitch of 19.6 kHz is sped up to 22.05 kHz
and still just barely fits in.
