I think it's just a wives tale, and urban myth, that MD's CD's and
portable radios, games cause landing gear or navigational equipment to
malfunction or output incorrect information.

I only see radio interference in the case of my computer being only a
few inches from my TV w/o cable. If you think about it a laptop might
cause similar interference but considering their small size they could
hardly cause interference more than a few centimeters around them. And
as for CD's MD's? I've never seen them affect any household equipment.
I know they don't allow cellular phones in hospitals, so they shouldn't
be allowed in airplanes either, but are they?

It is the frequency of the device being used and whether that frequency
is being transmitted through the airwaves to a receiving device, that
poses the real risks as in the case of the cell phone, but MD's? CD's?
NO. They don't cause any interference with airplane equipment. (unless
you were to go to the cockpit or navigational element, strip the wires
and open up the MD/CD player and wrap the stripped cord around the
circuit board!)
