I think the 310 is built on the 510 design.  If it is only 4 weeks old,
take the darn thing back.   IT isn't working like it was designed to
work.  I believe there have been problems with the gears stripping as
the problem progresses, butthat may be a different problem.  The 510 I
had would turn is self on (Auto erotic?) for several weeks before I took
it in for service.  Sometimes the gears would grind also.  If it is
under waranty, by all means get the darn thing fixed.  If it isn't, live
with it until it becomes a problem.   I think some people have lived
with it for some time and it didn't seem to get any worse.  However, I
think some had problems with grinding gears and trapped disks.  

Someone please correct me if my memory is faulty on this.
