Paddy,
The general rule or starting point in the olden days with factory cams was
for low down torque (truck style) use the A; use the B series with high
compression engines with single downdraft or B2 with weber/Mikuni sidedrafts
and the C cam which is the stock L20B & some say identical to the L16 SSS
cam seemed to be good with twin hitachi. The C cams could be better these
days with the HC engines (+9.5:1) as the compression pressures are slightly
lower with the C cam which has a longer duration than the B but not as much
lift.

this motor had an A cam in it when i bought it and 33mm ports i put the
su`s on and it was running nice like that but i thought id portmatch the
manifold and try a few cams i got here. i just thought id start with the C,
ill try a 25/65 .470lift cam next then maybe the B if i dont do somthin else
instead by then.
What specs are the cam you got ?
i got it running and it idled nice and smooth when it fired up, i had to
richen it a full turn from what it was set at to get it to revv, coz it just
wouldnt go over about 1200, and then it run sweet havent give it a good run
yet as its got a overheating prob ill figure out in the morn i hope.
it had a noticble difference and it was nice and responsive above about
1500rpm but didnt feel real powerful round the back yard. ill get into it
again tomorrow and give it a proper tune up, seems not too bad like it is
tho.
