I assume I was running a 3.9xx diff in my R31 turbo. It was converted
from auto to manual and whilst having a manual was great, it sucked that
first ran only 40-50ks and second to 90. (thats 7500 rpm redline)
That meant it was much slower getting off the line (wheelspin was
unavoidable in 1st) but from 100-160ish it was superb. It would even
keep up with WRX's from a non standing start (probably not faster than
them but almost as quick).
and then top speed was only around 200 (if i didn't have the 180 cut
out). I would definately be going for a 3.7 with a car producing more
than what mine did (112kw at the rears- not heaps for a 1400kg car but
acceptable). For me, I would rather a 1st gear that streched to 100-120
(big ask and maybe not relevant in a 1600 in a racing application) but
for mainly road use it is heaps more useful and fast tracks i suppose...
to sum it up, it felt like i had a fair bit of power there but coudn't
take advantage of it up to 100k's..
