That is a good price for that section!!
Theres no cat thats why it is so cheap. Is it stainless??. 3" cats
cost around 300 bucks themself. Most exhaust shops will do 3"
systems, but whether they are a good job is another question. Theres a bit
of art to getting the bends flowing nicely into each other and making it look
neat and tidy. I see some dodgy systems all the time at work. All u
really need to do is take your time, get everything tacked up in position with
flanges, make sure every bend is flowing into each other, which can be tricky,
weld her up neatly on the ground and bolt it back up. I wouldnt attempt doing it with out a hoist tho. They are a
nessesity.

Steve,
Wow that is a great price. The only
reason for the cat is if the inspections station (We know the fella
personally) gets wind that it runs on unleaded, he'll expect the cat.
But even if I just get the 3 inch from the turbo to the rear cross member
and mate it onto my current 2.25 inch hi flo/low restriction muffler, it
should be AWESOME. Thanks for the advice once again. I'll have
to ring the local exhaust place and see what he quotes me.

Exhausts
Daniel, Ive got a z18et in my 16 aswell.
Im running mandrel 3" stainless off turbo, into 3" mild to the
rear xmember, then into mandrel 21/2" thru xmember with one 21/2
str8 thru muffler at the rear. From turbo to the xmember only cost me
$245. Hardly worth doing it yourself. Mate had the full 3" system
done at the same place for $550 including mufflers. I would suggest
using one str8 thru muffler at the rear, and theres no need for a cat at
all, thats one advantage of a z18et!!! If your going all the way
3", which does sound nice, youll need to enlarge your xmember hole
to 4". Cheers Steve. Daniel Kroehn wrote:
I've got access to a good MIG,
linisher, saw, stands but not a hoist. I planned to follow the
path of my current 2.25 inch exhaust as close as possible. I
haven't done a lot of welding so I was planning just to tack the
whole lot together and have my Dad (who has done heaps of welding in
his time) neatly weld the whole thing together. What sort of muffler
do you recommend at a reasonable price? Daniel KroehnRecommending DATRATS, supplying quality

Exhausts Daniel, we
can supply u with bends if u need them. We have
20,30,45,90 (few others aswell) stainless 3" bends in
stock. There not too expenisive at all i dont think.
Your going to have to get the system spot on otherwise u will
scrape the crap out of it!! I wouldnt attempt it unless i
had all the equipment needed tho. Have u done much
welding? Do u have access to a hoist? Do u have a bench saw?
Linisher? Stands? Another thing with mandrel systems, you never
really know what degree of bend u need until your up to that
point so its hard to say exactly how many bends of what kind u
need. Its alot harder than press bend systems! The Walker cat is
ok i guess but NO muffler? That will be damn loud i tell ya! I
would put a small muffler in just to keep it down a bit. I
can understand why u would want to do it yourself, we charge
around the $1100 to $1700 mark for full 3" stainless
systems!! Nearly the cost of the Z18et itself!!! Hope this helps

Exhausts List, I'm looking at the possibility of making my own 3
inch mandrel bent exhaust when I drop in my
Z18et. I plan to use only a 3 inch hi flow
Walker cat and no muffler. I know that the whole
exhaust is welded together rather than press bent and fitted
but do I buy the pipe and get it bent myself (which seems
that it would just be the same as a press bent exhaust) or
can I buy pre bent 3 inch pipe sections? Any tips on
building my exhaust system? Cheers, Daniel
