Talking about strange motors i used to build and test napier deltics for a living. These things have 3 cranks setup in a triangular configuration with 18 cylinders and 36 pistons. They were an opposed piston centrifugally supercharged 2 stroke diesel. For a big engine they used to scream and were super smooth. With the fuel racks wide open in an ungoverned state i could get double the factory rpm and hp.They had no flywheel only small dampers on the cranks and from idle could spin to 4000rpm and return to idle in less that 2 seconds.   PTF Napier Deltic Engines There is no other motor that sounds like these.
