hi, if u run a surge tank ,  you wont have to change the tank fuel connections, you can do this on the surge tank itself..

on mine i  didnt change anything, the outlet went to a prime pump for the  surge tank , large outlet from surge tank to go to efi fuel pump, inlet on surge tank from return efi line, and outlet  from surge tank to 1600 tank,  there was a hose connection barb on the  1600 fuel tank  ,, .

I don't think running rubber lines the full length of the car is good.  As eventually they will get brittle and start to leak.  You can get your fuel lines done in stainless steel for about $120.  I think I used about 3/8" lines on my for the Z18ET.
