I've got the rear casing off the diff
what should I be looking for?
I can't see any visible damage at all
am I right in assuming if I jack the rear up and
try spinning the tyres by hand with the rear casing off, if the centre gears
don't turn, it could be a broken axle???

sounds like a smashed planetary gear or
gears,
i welded my old stanza diff up, i only broke an
occasional axle. suicide in the wet though.

guys what's a good (read tough) replacement
diff for a stanza?
I've busted mine BIG time
when you try to accelerate there's just a
whirring noise from the diff
then occasionally there's a BANG the diff
grabs, throws the car forward about 2m then starts just whirring and
spinning again
stripped axel perhaps?
will a S3 TRX diff bolt straight up? I've heard
they're pretty tough
