I put a race cam in an emergency engine I used a few years back, my 'good' engine was in peices and I didn't want to rush the build, so I threw in an old 1275 (OK we're talking BMC stuff here, indulge me) but I had sent the cam away for the new motor. Only cam I had left was the race item.
Anyway, long story short I got it going to go away on holidays. It was crazy. Pulling away from the lights it just went , chug chug chug chug then about 3 grand it just exploded in wheelspin and off you went. On the freeway in 4th it was great, at about 100kph you were just getting into the powerband so for overtaking you just snuck up behind people then put in the boot and shot past them. Great fun. Unfortunately the engine only lasted the one trip, as it was already very tired and that was pretty much the end of it. Still fun though.

I had a cam in the old L20B that had close to 300 degrees of duration and
only started making good power from about 4 grand all the way to about 7.5
grand. It was also reground to gain a little more lift than it orignially
had. It was fun but the fuel consumption was something else. The car was
quicker than most commywhores or falcons over a distance but off the line it
could just about be beaten by anything. I guess it just depends on what you
are doing to the engine, what you'll be using for and what compromises you
are willing to accept.
