Is this the Lancia that helped their WRC domination?
They were called Deltas. Basically they were a very little box, smaller
than a Datsun 1600.

Purpose built for WRC they were the first truly modern rally car, a
generation ahead of the more conventional Audi Quattro 4WD that had
dominated prior to these arriving. The big difference was the layout of the
driveline, which put the mid engine behind the gearbox. The box sat between
the driver and nav facing "backward". They had a 1600cc engine where the
back seat would be normally. They had a KKK supercharger for lowdown grunt
which cut out and a turbocharger took over at high revs. HP was 300, all
you could put down on a road in a 4wd car weighing bugger all. The
suspension was also high tech.
Although they looked like a high tech nightmare in drawings, they were very
easy to work on as most important bits were spread well apart, even though
the engine was inside the car. They got banned when Group G? rally cars
became too fast for open roads in the late 1980's.

In my view, the Delta's design spawned the many of the ideas now in current
WRX, Lancers, Peugeot's etc.which have all copied elements of the Deltas
(except the complex blown mid engine).
