I have just searched my archives and found the specs of the Lancia Delta S4 Group B rally car. It goes close to my most desired car. Here they are: Produced in mid 1985, it had an Abarth engine of 1759cc mid/rear mounted, with a KKK Turbo plus Volumex "compressor" (supercharger) providing 1.35 Bar. The early cars produced 298KW at 8000RPM and 392 Nm of torque at 5000RPM (and over 270Nm at 2000RPM.). Rev limit was 10000RPM, so it was no slugger! It had a driveline that looks like a Subaru flipped front to rear, engine longitudinal but behind the crew, with the 5 speed gearbox facing forward. A twin plate clutch driving through front, rear and centre diff, which could only be altered for front to rear balance by mechanical adjustment. (This was improved by the time they were winning ralllies) Wheels were 8 by 16 front and 12 by 16 in rear, under huge boxed guard flares, popular at the time. A very short exhaust pipe poked under the rear skirt from the KKK turbo which was mounted across the drive line, 90 degrees to the trend today, the exhaust went through the turbo in a spiral, exiting on the outer perimeter, not doing a right angle turn and exiting from the centre as is the common turbo design today. The air intake came through vents in the roof.
The car weighed 870 Kgm, the minimum allowed for the class. It was basically a tube frame chassis with a kevlar shell. Body specs were: Wheelbase 2440mm Overall length 3990mm Width 1880mm Hight1400mm Weight to power 3.00Kgm per kW (Not too bad eh?) This Lancia dominated European rallying for 2 years until it was banned. This was a very desirable vehicle in its day and still is - anyone know of one for sale? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard Clough" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, 9 June 2002 20:05 PM Subject: Re: Fastest 1600 vs Lancia 4wd weapon > OK Errol I will. > > Anyone know who hires these specialised videos in Melbourne? > > I must search my back issue motor mags to get a drawing of the Lancia Delta, > it was before the Stratos and much more radical in its engineering, The > Stratos was mild in comparison, as it conformed to the new regs after the > Group B rally cars were banned. > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "E Smith" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Sent: Saturday, 8 June 2002 23:12 PM > Subject: RE: Fastest 1600 vs Lancia 4wd weapon > > > > Check out the video "too fast to race!" if you get the chance. > > > > Cheers > > Feral Errol > > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Richard Clough > > Sent: Saturday, 8 June 2002 9:50 PM > > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Subject: Re: Fastest 1600 vs Lancia 4wd weapon > > > > Is this the Lancia that helped their WRC domination? > > They were called Deltas.
