I will check out all the badge work today as I think there may have been datsun 1800 on the rear guards. Only one rear guard badge is left on the car.

Here it was called a Datsun 1800 and never had Laurel badges although it did still have L logos on the grille and pillar vents. The C30 was a Prince design for sure ...the G series engine is one of theirs too.

Maybe the cars sold there are identical to Japanese spec ones which were always sold as Nissan. From what I gather from old Japanese brochures, all the up market models and cars were sold as Nissan and low so spec trucks and the like carried the Datsun name there. My Brochures for 710, B210 etc don't mention Datsun anywhere.

Nissan did well out of that merger. In '66 Nissan had such low tech cars like the 411, all drum brakes, OHV \ustin engine, leaf springs and wishbone front end. The bingo! two years later they have the highly sphisticated C30.

Rob,
I'm not sure on that. I think the 240Z, the 20L(c30 coupe version )  and the C30 al came out around the same time in mid 68 and the components were most likely originally Prince adapted to Nissan.
Interestinglt the Laurel is baged a Nissan Laurel? when all other vehicles were being labelled datsun????
Anyone know any more about this.

Sounds like the best of the Datsun bits in the one car. The 240Z came after 1968 though did'nt it? So was the rack and pinion originally developed for the Laurel?

The Laurel project has arrived at the rats nest, ready to start on the resto.
Not a bad car for its day (1968) first regoed 1969. Rack and pinion steering from 240Z independent rear from 510, heater/demister, cross flow 102 ps engine
I will upload some pics to OZDAT later.
