I ran one of my Mercedes 300E's 40,000 miles with Mobil 1, regular oil
testing and filter changes. I changed the oil then because the pucker factor
got too great.

I discovered that its cheaper to go ahead and periodically change your oil
then to go through the time and expense of sending off oil samples. I run
Mobil 1 in all of my gas engines and Dino oil in my diesels.

Subject: [MBZ] Crazy to go 20K on any oil

So, is the point of going 15-20,000 miles just so you can say you did that?
No matter anyone's thoughts about the price of Mobil 1, I think we can all
agree that it is cheaper than an engine. This thread has demonstrated that
people have an almost religious belief about the oils they use in there
cars. I suppose I am no different in that all I could think was "Oh God! Why
would someone go 20K on the same oil."

Yup. I changed it anyway, but am getting close to another 10K. I'll

test before changing this time.

To corroborate Dave's statement - the oil analysis on my 300SDL

(287,000 miles) at 10,211 miles on Mobil1 indicated 0.5% soot. I'm

about to hit another 10k miles, and will get another analysis done. I

am VERY impressed with the cold starting of the engines with Mobil1 -

having used dino oil for 20 years and having to plug in the block

heater before switching.
