As ususal. Politicians have trouble with anything more forward-looking than the next election, which is 2 - 4 - 6 years. Some businesses often have the same problem, limiting their vision to the next quarter or fiscal year, but many are used to dealing with investments that take years or decades to bear fruit (e.g. drilling for oil). You won't find the answers to very many problems from a politician.
