How much power do you have in the garage now?  I have 220 V in  mine but only 
30 Amps as I ran #10 cable
underground when we built it. Now I wish I had gone with a minimum of #8 so I 
could run 40 Amps or more. My welders
want more power. If I try to run at the higher amperages, I blow breakers. The 
underground cable is a bit pricy so
it will cost some money to run the bigger line out. My garage is only 40 feet 
or so from the house but also a mess
to dig in the new line.

Good points - thanks, Mitch.  I guess the two post drive-on lift rules out
brake work...

Also, it requires 220 volts.  How big a deal is that?  Our garage is
detached, about 75' from the house.
