Setting it cool down at night doesn't seem to have made any difference - either way, in our heating cost, nor does setting it to warm up i the summer at night. My wife likes it cooler at night, so it does accomplish that, so it's all good (in the winter).
Is your house really well insulated? My floor isn't insulated, and my attic only has about 6" (~38" is recommended). I like it cool at night as well, so if nothing else that is worth it!
