I don't golf, but there are lots of trees around, so a couple
seconds with my knife and I have a suitable substitute.

Actually, disconnect-and-plug is a appropriate way to track down
troubles. On many cars I have removed the front seat carpet and
left it out for a week or two while I track down which is the
offending vacuum module. The multi-way fitting on the floor
there are the distribution points. I'm don't think from there
you can isolate the fuel door or hatch/truck - but it's been a
while since I've done it.  I need to, though...
