Jim is admitting to living in the time of the dinosaurs. I started
out with mark sense cards, because we were not trusted with key punch
machines. Later, when we were able to use the key punch machines, it
was sooo much nicer! On the machine side, I used a paper tape NC
machine. THat was fun too. Lots of little holes punched out of the paper.

No. Try a 110 baud ASR-33 teletype for I/O. Slow, and noisy, and
a real beast to type on with long-throw buttons and absolutely
no key rollover. (If you attempt to type too fast it will jam
your fingers.) I spent time that way in the beginning, and
all the terseness of traditional Unix is absolutely
understandable (and forgivable) to me.
