Yeah, Linux. So much  more free and actually intended for your hardware.
To make it real easy buy an older model workstation (something like an HP 
xw8000, xw6000, xw4000, or Compaq w8000) as the hardware is much more solid 
(like a Mac frankly) and won't break the bank to buy on eBay.

I'm convinced if more people bought workstation class computers the argument of 
PC vs Mac would be much less... It'd come down to which OS do you want to think 
like. I think like a PC, I like order and I find a PC easier to organize. Its 
not that one is right and the other is wrong, they're just different.

Anyway the first time I installed Mepis Linux I thought "oh, looks like a 
Mac"...

on a PC.
