On the W140 and later models, they are "smart" motors with a serial network connection to the convenience relay box, have to be programed so that the computer knows which window to open. Supposedly so that children will not be strangled by the window, but that doesn't take Microsoft Windows and a serial network, just a slip clutch.

Big bucks -- the motor is $400 or so and the fee for programming is $200 at the local dealer if you don't have them replace the motor for $600.
