I think Clay is referring to a '95 E300 Diesel.  However, my '87 wagon's
harness doesn't look too good, and I suspect that there are some
problems which would resolve with a new harness.

Is it the engine compartment WH or the one for the whole car?

I was hoping this problem was more common in the later MBs - like mid
90s - now you indicate it the early 90s like my '91 300D!
