I just looked up this thread(s) on Benzworld.org and there are even more opinions on that list than this one about when and which models. Maybe over time many will fail.

I think the 90-93 300d avoided it because the harness was designed for the 1990 model year. The '94-95 300d engine harness would have started production at exactly the wrong time, but at least a non turbo diesel isn't as hot under the hood as most other cars.
