Even now there are aveos available with no ac, no cruise, no nothing.

A few years ago, the Special Value Chevy Aveo was a $10000 car with no factory options (which sold for as little as $6k in the late summer of 2005). There was a factory A/C accessory parts kit for those who wanted A/C but didn't want to pay for the Aveo LS. I believe it was equivalent to installing the factory A/C from a parts car into a car that never had A/C.
