I used a special tools. Definitely get the Mercedes sliding fluid or spray them with silicon to aid installation. If you do the tie rods, mark the cam bolts to the frame with a chisel or sharpie so you can get them close. Be ready for an alignment when you are done. I removed the entire subframe from the car when I did mine. Its easier than you think. A tranny jack under the differential is helpful. -----Original Message----- From: "Dillon, Meade M CIV SPAWARSYSCEN-ATLANTIC, 53310" <[email protected]> Sender: [email protected] Date: Wed, 11 Aug 2010 08:09:46 To: Mercedes Discussion List<[email protected]> Reply-To: Mercedes Discussion List <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [MBZ] 124 rear suspension rebuild - who's BTDT? Brian, Thanks for the caution re: torque bolts while car is level. How do you recommend attacking the sub frame mounts? -Max -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Brian Toscano Sent: Tuesday, August 10, 2010 10:56 PM To: Mercedes Okie Benz Mailing List Subject: Re: [MBZ] 124 rear suspension rebuild - who's BTDT? There are several special tools that aid in subframe mount and lower wheel carrier joint replacement. However, they are not necessary. A spring compressor is not necessary for rear springs. The single most important thing to remember is to tighten all the bolts with the weight of the car on the wheels! Don't tighten all the links with the springs in and the car on jack stands! -----Original Message----- From: Mitch Haley <[email protected]> Sender: [email protected] Date: Tue, 10 Aug 2010 17:51:05 To: Mercedes Discussion List<[email protected]> Reply-To: Mercedes Discussion List <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [MBZ] 124 rear suspension rebuild - who's BTDT?
