Amen! The same thing happens with software. Programmers find some
new trick, so they have to work it into the software. the software
get bloated, the new trick doesn't follow the rules, so then
unexpected hangs and crashes occur. Feature creep is dangerous in
software, in projects, in aircraft and yes, in cars. The marketing
bozo forget the first rule: Keep It Simple, Stupid. Complexity is
not just S.T.U.P.I.D. it is dangerous, especially when it is
unnecessary.
I like my SDL, because it doesn't talk back, doesn't have a computer
to run the engine, doesn't have double pane windows, etc. I like my
124 because it is simpler than the SDL. I like the 240D because it
is simpler yet. I like the 200D because it is still simpler, and is
very nice to drive.
Lexus has them too, in some models. Not just argon filled, but they
are colored as well, so you have to get one that matches the
rest...
They also have "smart" window motors, although I don't know if they
are as much of a hassle as MBs or not.
Can you spell S..T...U..P...I...D?
The numbskulls who thought this stuff up forgot that one of the
reasons people (yeah, even rich ones) bought them because they hold
their value so well. Grossly expensive replacements for stuff that
breaks all the time and cannot be fixed but has to be swapped out
kill resale value, and the idea of dumping a hundred grand on a car
with no resale value might seem reasonable to a street walker turned
movie star, but business people with lots of money HAVE lots of
money because the watch every single penny of it. Disposable luxury
cars only work if you just lease them, and then the dealer or
manufacturer is stuck with a huge loss.
Teenybopper marketing gone wild!
