My uncle served in North Africa during WWII, and sadly by the time I found out he had several albums of photographs he no longer remembered what they were -- dementia.

My aunt was in the WAVES for the duration, too -- Sharpshooter rated gun instructor. Quite a lady.

I have found than many WWII vets don't talk about it much -- a friend of ours who was in the first wave ashore at Iwo said it gave him nightmares for weeks if he did, and he preferred not to mention it much.

Of course, we knew what we were fighting for that time, unlike some of our other conflicts were the reasons and objectives change daily.
