Neil went on his 2-3 year exodus after the death of his wife from cancer. Shortly (around 10 months) before his wife passed, his daughter was killed in a car accident.
He considered himself "retired" after his wife's death, and went on a 2-3 year sabbatical, covering over 55,000 miles throughout North and South America on his motorcycle.
