Power Nazi, indeed. Hugely important if you're trying to stretch your fuel supplies.
Our big backup generator is around 3GPH at no load. 40kW Kohler. Cute little thing, completely inappropriate for our needs, really. However, it's the 'slice of normal life' machine to go to, though the fuel rate is atrocious. So, gather up all your high-energy needs at once and get busy while it's on. Laundry, cooking, bathing, etc. In fact, a diesel 5kW running near-continuously would work very well if one could control the loads well enough. Have all refrigeration devices aware of each other so that only one ran at a time, and dump the rest of that capacity into the hot water tank. All these are thermal banks of some sort, and already operate intermittently by their very nature. (Oh, and include domestic water pressure pump too, fit right in.) Remaining capacity for a few lights and entertainment devices. Coast on battery power during the sleep hours, trust the thermal banks to behave themselves. Could be a very practical system, if only the peak load mitigation were easier! -- Jim _______________________________________ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
