The other night I passed a state trooper who had a car pulled over.  The
red and blue LED lights they are using now are so bright they are nearly
blinding at night and the blinking pattern is so chaotic it is intensely
distracting.  There's a need for visibility, no argument, but I think
they've gone over the top.

After a few dozen mesmerized drunks plow into the backs of stopped patrol cars, the highway patrol might catch on.

Mitch.

Doubtful.  They are not the brightest bulbs in the pack.


There is a story in the Drivers ed circuits about calling attention to something on the side of the road.

DE instructor:  "Watch out for the police car on the shoulder."
Student proceeds to run into the police car because attention was diverted form the road to the car, and we tend to go where our eyes are looking....
