A new, factory, (not rebuilt), Bosch alternator for an '83 300D
came with no half-moon key slot in the shaft. All else is the same
as the defective alternator.

Factory booklet that came with alternator simply says to be sure
and use cars recommended torque on nut with no mention of key.

In 65+ years of messing with cars, this is the first alternator/generator
shaft I've seen with no half-moon key.

Anyone else encountered this?

If Bosch is gambling on saving the cost of one machining operation,
it might be a good idea to put some sort of "glue" on the shaft/pulley
just in case. Would "stop-nut" allow the pulley to be removed the
next time an alternator is needed?

Thanks,

Gerry
