At only 7 to 11, about the only thing I did for the war effort during WWII was scrounge up scrap metal coupla times and take it to school for scrap drive.

Yes, and that was a significant contribution for a kid. The amount of scrap scrounged by kids during WWII is amazing.

Just think if all the things you gave up too. No video games, no tv, no cell phone, no skateboard, no designer jeans or shirts. No nikie or other big brand shoes. How could you possibly live without all the "necessities" modern kids need.
