Subject: [MBZ] Wooo boy!

Got a replacement alternator today from my local Car Quest.

Got the old one back out (had put it back in so I could move the car for snow removal) and with them side by side "Oh $h*t!" they're not the same, the new one has a longer shaft and the key sits 1/4" farther away from the body of the alternator. After much screwing around with the alternator in and out of the car I decided the problem was the pulley which looks unlike the one on Rusty's site. Back to Car Quest where the guy presents me with "the big box of pulleys" which includes I guess all their leftover pulleys, he tells me to take it home and see if I can find one that fits.

This is why I got to my local Car Quest.

Anyway after much screwing around I end up taking 2 washers that were slightly undersized for the shaft on the alt and using the drum sander in my dremel tool to open them up to a good tight fit which spaced the original pulley out pretty much perfectly.

Finally got it all buttoned up and I've never been so happy to see 14.4v!

Anyway after so many ins and outs the belt is a little chewed, I'd better replace that tomorrow...
