I can attest to that. Froggy hacked a loogie a few months ago. No start issue that seems to indicate fuel problems. I swapped out a fuel filter and it ran. Once. Decided it was getting cold, so park it until spring. Got a bug after new years, so called the shop. Tow truck drug it a few miles and off they went.
Hey, I got a nice summer of driving out of her. Fuel pump failed. Unobtanium Use a newer series pump and kludge a damper, filter, pump set up that requires welding and parts from the Fatherland. I inquire if the pump could be rebuilt. Indy looks at me like I just pooped in his tool drawer. Why would I want obsolete tech and have to find the part again when I can use the newer type? Ok. Still runs like crap. Find out there are molecular depth left to the points and contacts. Shot after 38 years. Put new ones in and adjust. Still not running like he wants. So he looks at the plugs. Yeah, I messed up the install and one was barely three rotations in. Fresh plugs. That was a fix, but not the one he wanted to solve, so out comes the stethoscope. Number three is having a strange tick. Messed up exhaust gasket? Head gasket leaking? Hard to tell. But that does not prove to be the trouble. Start removing plug wires. Hard to tell but looks like number six is not firing or something is off. Pokes around and looks like injector is the problem. Test the lead and it shows power and it is performing. Must be the injector itself. Points out at least one injector has been replaced with newer. SO I have been running on 7 pistons. All spring and summer. Probably been like that for years. FECES! Do the standard web search for just what is supposed to be a replacement part. Then try to source said part. New, these things are up to $230 from around $150 a few years ago. Curses! Hit fleabay. yeah, they know what these things are worth. Offer of new are same as retail, and that is opening bid. Found a guy in Kalifornia who parted an early M117 and put 7 injectors up. Sold five, wants $75 each. I make an offer and get the last two for $100 both. Shipped and should arrive in time for installation when the German parts come in. But why does my indy still look at me like I am a complete idiot and I piss him off that I have an old car? clay 1974 450sl - Frosch - Two tone green 1972 220D - Gump - She is green, simple and ran 1995 E300D - Cleo - Used by the Queen of Denial POS 1987 SDL - Beware Nigerian Scammers On Jan 3, 2013, at 5:42 PM, Jaime Kopchinski wrote: > Yeah, all the mid 70s stuff is a low point in automotive history.
