1951 Teves acquired the rights to the Hydrovac vacuum booster from the U.S. Bendix company and marketed it in Germany as the ATE T50. The vacuum booster came in response to the fact that cars were getting heavier and heavier, and more and more physical effort was needed to apply the brakes. It uses the vacuum generated on the intake side of the engine to boost the brake force, making for a vast improvement in driver comfort. This technology rapidly displaced the principle of self-energizing foundation brakes which was being pursued by the automobile industry. scoring another innovative breakthrough for Teves.
