OTOH, on one occasion my parents' Generac standby unit didn't either.
Lightning took out their transformer, the generator fired up, and 30 seconds later the transfer switch figured the generator hadn't stabilized yet, so it waited for Hell to freeze over before engaging. The worst of both worlds, the generator was burning propane but the lights and refrigerator weren't working.

I went out there in the storm, turned the generator off and back on, and the transfer switch engaged properly. But it's made us leery ever since of depending on the thing to do its job when nobody is home.
