So properly speaking the solenoid is a portion of a relay?
<pedant> Well now, that depends on your definition of 'solenoid'. If you go by the original meaning, a single coil in serpentine fashion, then all relays contain solenoids, because all relays (of the mechanical type) contain coils. If, on the other hand, you define a solenoid as a moving metal slug _within_ a coil, which is probably the more common definition, then very few relays are solenoids. Probably only the really heavy ones, because the moving slug pulls harder and can move heavier contacts than the usual kind that pulls a lever towards a non-moving pole piece that's within the relay. More moving parts, though. </pedant> I still think the best fix is to tap into your malfunctioning GP relay, ensure that the contacts are OK, then drive the coil directly with your own switch and wiring. That way you exploit all the extant wiring, and can even restore automatic operation merely by replacing the relay with a good one. -- Jim _______________________________________ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
