Yesterday I bought a generator that 'acts like the choke was stuck on and then
it dies', then the seller broke the starter rope before I got there so I
couldn't even check it for compression.
Turned out the rope wasn't broken, just untied, and was a string trimmer rope
much thinner and shorter than it should be for an 11hp generator. 5 minutes to
restring the starter.
Wouldn't spark until I cleaned the soot fouled plug, then started on the 2nd
pull and blew soot out of the exhaust. Ran great for 10 seconds after I shut the
fuel off. Fortunately I finally came to my senses and checked the air filter
before tearing the carb apart. I've never seen a filter so badly clogged, it's
difficult to blow through, let alone try to get it to pass 11hp worth of air.
Generator runs great without the filter. Makes sparks with a half hearted tug on
the rope, starts so easily I might not bother to put the proper rope on it.
Again, does anybody know anything about Wacker generators?
I'm hoping they're the MBZ of generators, but I'd never heard the name before
last weekend.

The 11hp Wacker/Honda I bought today has a three wire 240v outlet, I
have yet to determine whether the "ground" can be used as a neutral. The
seller got it from a storage unit auction 8 years ago, so it must be at
least 10 years old, haven't looked for the data plate yet.
Does anybody know anything about Wacker generators, other than they're
super expensive? Looks like internet price on my Wacker 5.6 is about
$2600 plus $200 for the wheel kit. I'm hoping the quality and durability
is super high, like Snap-On hand tools or old Mercedes-Benz. Mine looks
somewhat beat, but the Honda engine still has excellent compression.
