VW Passat TDI - I hit 53 mpg on the road. It all depends on the mission profile - mostly in town, get one of those Jap hybrids, or even better, the Volt. For the highway, it's hard to equal, much less beat, a modern Diesel. I saw some Diesel/electric buses in Providence last month - that's what we need.
