An LED lamp can be added to the solatube so that light is to be had during the
night. The tubes provided ample daylight to dark areas of the house. Not sure
of the payback schedule v. electric, but bathrooms and hallways no longer need
to burn electrons for 12 hours a day, all year long. It also works ok for
night use if there is ambient light outside. I have one in my outhouse, mom
has one in her bathroom. It is not dazzling light. It is full spectrum and
good enough at night to keep you from piddling on the floor without turning on
the lights and destroying night vision.
