Yeah but I've had better luck getting good penetration with a 110v buzz box
than a small mig welder. Looking at the welds on the jack they're terrible. My
welding has improved in a year so hopefully if I crank the heat I can do better
now. I was worried about burning through the trailer tongue before but
considering I got almost zero penetration I won't worry this time, just burn it
good...

But would that not also be a 110V welder?
My minimal experience as a welder indicates that 220V is the way to go.
I had a 110V MIG and swapped it for a 220V unit. I have a Lincoln Mig
pak 180 and a Lincoln 225 Amp AC welder. Nothing fancy but so far so good.
I don't use either of them often enough to ever get much practise time.
I also have a 110V stick welder that was given to me by a friend before
I got the bigger one.
Too bad you are not close by. I would give you the 110V stick welder. It
is in the garage at the lake but we have yet to use it out there.
